The summer course takes place in an old monastery in Collevecchio.
The location is 70 km north of Rome in Lazio, accessible by train from Rome.
If you want you can also stay in Rome before or after the course.
I, Marina Buening, am a visual artist with both feet firmly planted in life. As a trained economist, I decided at the end of my 20th to become a full-time artist.
I have a lot of of teaching experience with a wide range of age groups and all kinds of artistic techniques.
For me, it is important to always combine free work with working from nature when teaching!
I am a professor in art at two American universities in Rome. In my own art, I combine sculpture, printing techniques, photography and drawing.
- I hadn't drawn since my teenage years. So I was afraid of not living up to my own expectations and putting too much pressure on myself. But that turned out to be completely different during the week, which was a great relief for me. The educational concept of moving from simple things to more complicated things, from sketches and lines to cool and larger pieces, experimenting with colours, working with a wide variety of materials and objects, all of this helped me to relax and become more observant. I developed a different kind of mindfulness, learned to observe and am less preoccupied with what I think is right or wrong. It was a truly wonderful experience. I enjoyed the instruction as well as the interaction with the other participants. The warmth, the beautiful light, the good food, the aperitivo in the village and the beautiful surroundings exceeded my expectations! It was the perfect combination for a holiday!

You have an inspiring and soothing way of motivating and guiding both creative beginners and advanced learners, you just have to stick with it. It's like coming home. The course teaches specific drawing techniques, such as sketching from nature, but there is also plenty of free drawing and both techniques are integrated. This combination is unique, but you will see how it helps you to progress. Due to the small group size, everyone is accompanied in their very personal process. This gives participants the chance to find their own artistic expression, perhaps even leave their comfort zone and discover their own style and new preferences.
You will really enjoy the artistic work and see how easy it is!
